Looking for the best place to work for as a PR professional?

Some say the best place in the world is a non-profit organization, because there is a noble cause behind it that makes you feel good inside. Some say the best place is a corporate mainly because as long as you love what you do then your job is your cause, and if the corporate is strong, healthy and wealthy, it can assist many charities, so you can end up doing more good than you thought. However, when it comes to work as a PR practitioner for the government there are some dualities.

Some say government is great because it is stable, so it is a place to make career. Others say, it is a hard work place for PR’s professionals as there is a lot of bureaucracy and steps before taking a single decision, besides politics are always in the sights of the spotlight and need someone with great media relations skills, quick-thinking and willing to battle a few communications crisis for them. On the other hand, it is important to consider that for them there is a cause behind it too. Many love the party, and are completely aligned with their philosophy.

Thus, in my personal point of view, does not matter the place, you need to find your cause: the challenge that makes your heart beat faster.

love

One place surely can be more challenging than others, but as long as you like it then the challenge itself is more than welcome, it will make you grow and go further in your career.

Thus, the first point I brought to light here was the need for a cause, or basically feeling passionate for something. The second point equally important are the benefits (you know… paid vacation, performance bonus, perspectives of promotion, and open communication)

A third point that is really REALLY important to me is atmosphere, energy, or friendly environment. You need to build connections, relationships, to be able to feel vulnerable and trust each other. Trust is hard to get, but once you have it you will think twice before changing jobs or embracing new causes. People definitely can make your workplace worthwhile and your world a better place! Because of them you wake in the morning feeling like to go to work!

When there is connection and you utterly care about the people surrounding you then you run a mile (or a kilometer) more for them. Summing up, the best workplace for me is not measured by the challenges of the job itself or the company’s mentality. It is measured by the people who make it happen. And for those who were expecting a few companies’ names to work for, take a look in this PRWeek article with a list.
