PR: the art of the RELATIONSHIP

Plant the seed and reap relationships. Public Relations is based genuinely in relationships. Is an art of building connections, making a bridge between the organization and the public. Cultivate those relationships is not that difficult, all you need is to be present, respect them, and be sincere in your feelings.

Relationships are so powerful and fruitful that market-driven companies are extremelly interactive with their target customers, knowing everything about them, I mean EVERYTHING: their habits, income, age, lifestyle, even the way they spend their vacation. Why? Because this database (or CRM) is useful to better drive all the actions of the company to that specific target as well as meet a specific need.

In Public Relations, knowing about your audience  – and in marketing too – help you to better deliver your message. You will be a more efficient communicator if you do your homework, your research.

Research is indeed the first big step in live for social communicators. Whether you are a journalist, a PR, a marketing professional… or even if you are just planning your own vacation. Research is the solid foundation where you will build all your actions. Without it there is no target and none purpose. Strategy becomes empty without research.

Basically, research and relationship go hand in hand. When you do your research, you know your audience deep enough as you know your best friend, and it will last because you (and only you) know them enough to speak to their needs. Just have in mind that like a plant all relationships need attention, so you will have to put some effort and time on it, but it will flourish, as well as your PR career. Plant the seed and reap relationships.
